The Atmosphere Triangle
THE IMPORTANCE OF ATMOSPHERE
What makes customers choose one restaurant or bar over another?
Sure, the food and drinks are a major factor in their decision; so is the price. But more often than you may realise, it’s the atmosphere of your bar or restaurant that convinces customers to come in … or sends them scurrying away.
There are a few key factors that we can control when it comes to getting the atmosphere right, this is where the atmosphere triangle comes into play…
ALL THREE POINTS OF THE ATMOSPHERE TRIANGLE MUST BE EQUAL AND COMPLETE TO CREATE THE PERFECT TRIANGLE AND SO THE PERFECT ATMOSPHERE
It only takes one of these points of the triangle to be ‘off’ to destroy the whole atmosphere within your venue.
LightingThe lighting should always mirror the lighting outside. It should be indistinguishable between both
MusicBefore the party starts the perfect volume is as follows. Sit on a table. You should be able to hear the person opposite without straining but not hear the person sat on the next table. This makes the venue comfortable for people to chat.
TemperatureYour temperature doesn’t matter. You are working and moving fast. Look around and take note of your guests. Are they still wearing coats? Are they fanning themselves?
Get behind your bar and open yourself up to these three different points of the Atmosphere Triangle. Let us know your findings below.
Remember that this triangle being perfect is normally the reason for a customer loving a bar but not quite being able to put their finger on why!
